Electives for Medical and Allied Health Sciences

Students pursuing the Biology Major with Concentration in Medical and Allied Health Sciences must complete elective courses in 3 thematic areas (Field, Laboratory, and Systematics) as specified in the degree plan. Courses that fulfill these requirements are listed below. Students interested in medical school, dental school, and allied health sciences programs, are recommended to take electives marked by *. When choosing an elective, keep in mind that effective with the issuance of the 2016-17 catalog, Biology Majors must also complete a course that places an emphasis on writing. This course can be used to satisfy other curriculum requirements, as appropriate. See the list of eligible Writing Emphasis Courses below.

Sophomore Biology Elective

  • Any BIOL course for majors at or above the 200 level. Must be approved by the student's academic advisor. 3-4 credit hours

  • Any BIOL course for majors at or above the 300- or 400-level. Must be approved by the student's academic advisor. Students interested in medical school should consider taking BIOL 337 and BIOL 455G. 3-4 credit hours
