This image is an example of rhodamine-phalloidin staining of actin filaments in non-embedded root tissue. The outer cortical cells (top) are characterized by filaments that run parallel to the length of the roots. Epidermal cells (bottom) also show mostly longitudinal microfilaments but their organization appears to be different from that of the cortex.
