Students with an interest in the life sciences are required to complete the University and Biology Core Curriculum. However, there is sufficient latitude in the undergraduate curriculum that a student can select course electives from the zoological sciences, plant sciences, ecology, microbiology, genetics, evolutionary biology, behavioral ecology, and molecular biology. These electives will be selected in consultation with the students' undergraduate advisor. In addition, students that have scored 26 or above on the ACT exams and maintain a 3.0 grade point average are eligible to participate in the Honors program. The undergraduate honor's student may conduct a research project in close association with a biology faculty member.
Students admitted to the UL Lafayette are eligible to major in Biology, Microbiology or Resource Biology and Biodiversity. Completion of the minimum requirements for high school graduation is adequate preparation to major in the life sciences. However, high school students considering a career in the life sciences are encouraged to complete four units of math and four units of science, one unit being chemistry or physics.
