Medical and Allied Health Sciences Concentration
The Medical and Allied Health Sciences concentration (code: MEDA) provides students with the preparation they will need to make contributions to the improvement of human health. It is designed to address the needs of premedical and other students planning to pursue careers in medicine, dentistry, physical therapy, chiropractic medicine, pharmaceutical sciences, public health, optometry or as a physician assistants. The concentration also provides the course work necessary for those wishing to do graduate work in medical and health research. This track would be a good choice for students seeking employment in pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, medical clinics, forensic laboratories, hospitals, nursing and public health facilities.
Faculty and students associated with this concentration are doing research in histology, neurobiology, development, physiology, pathology, virology, microbiology, morphology, anatomy, and molecular biology. Those students who plan to seek admission to professional schools of medicine and allied health fields are strongly encouraged to become active members of the University's Pre-Professional Society.
