Microbiology

Our Bachelor of Science in Biology with concentration in Microbiology (code: MCBL) is an excellent choice for students interested in careers studying microorganisms and their effects on humans, animals, plants and the environment. Microbiologists study a broad range of areas, including disease, genetics, genetic engineering, immunology, virology, parasitology and more. Microbiologists find jobs in hospitals, government labs, research universities, pharmaceutical companies, food industry, water treatment, agriculture, pollution control, biotechnology, and energy development.

Our faculty are engaged in research on bacterial pathogenesis and carcinogenesis, the role of microorganisms in bioremediation, biogeochemistry and diseases of aquatic animals, biofuels and more. Undergraduate students can obtain credit working in a lab with a biology faculty member on some of these projects.
